Experiences of Community Pharmacies in West Essex

This report is by Healthwatch Essex and looks at local experiences of pharmacy.
Three methods were used for engagement, a survey, interviews, and case studies. There were 162 respondents.
Mixed experiences were found, while many made good use of their pharmacy for medication related services there were concerns from many about the size, location and ability of their local pharmacy to deliver. In a case study it was found that there was not enough provision for local residents as demands had increased.
There were recommendations in this report.
- To promote the NHS app for repeat prescriptions
- Promoting services that can be offered beyond medication related ones.
- Offering training to staff on dealing with people from different backgrounds/needs.
- Support for communities to be able to meet need when populations expand.
- Increasing awareness amongst those that might not use the pharmacy as much or be aware of the services there.
