Summary of report content

Healthwatch Havering carried out an enter and view visit to Abbcross Nursing Home. Prior to the visit, members of Healthwatch Havering met the home’s manager in a video conference meeting to discuss the home and set the scene for the visit.

Ten out of twenty-six beds in the home are reserved for patients who are discharged from hospital but require after-care.

The team made a number of observations, including the following:

  • The building is well maintained with a good sized garden, the home has been revamped and redecorated in recent months
  • The home has a designated GP
  • Mealtimes are staggered to enable staff to spend quality time with residents
  • Some staff were training to certify end of life, which would enable arrangements to be made for deceased residents with a minimum of distress for their relatives
