On 17th March 2019, Healthwatch Doncaster undertook an Enter and View visit to the Woodlea care Home to build a picture of the quality and range of care provision in Doncaster from a resident’s perspective. Following the meeting of the Planning Group, the group decided that observation sheets would be used throughout the visit to capture the required information.
The home had 26 residents, 5 of whom have dementia. The report found that the home had a caring, homely atmosphere; interactions between staff and residents were very good; the environment was clean and tidy; an impressive inter-generational interaction had been developed with the nearby nursery. The home also had links with a GP practice that did a “ward round” weekly and a Mobile Care Monitoring system was in place in the home.
The report was overall very positive but made some small recommendations for further improvement: to make the resident’s toilets have contrasting colour toilet seats and dementia friendly signage on doors; to extend down the alarm cords to a few centimetres from floor level so they are accessible in the event of a fall; to untie the cords in the toilets. The providers responded to the recommendations by ordering contrasting coloured toilet seats and extending all the alarm cords
