Summary of report content

On 30th of April 2019, Healthwatch Bucks undertook an unscheduled Enter and View visit to Woodlands Park Care Home which provided nursing care for up to 25 people with dementia.

Healthwatch Bucks reported an excellent interaction between staff and residents where they treated each other as equals and chatted freely; residents were relaxed and comfortable in each other’s company and engaged in conversations; the home respected what everyone wanted to do including pictorial food menu which enabled the residents to choose what they wanted to eat; residents could move around the home as they pleased and rooms were well signed with pictures as well as words; the bedroom doors had personalised letter boxes and knockers; the home was bright with lots of windows and large communal rooms; personal confidentiality was maintained; the activities coordinator was very animated and ensured everyone was asked to join in an activity; staff were quick to help residents move or get up from chairs and also actively supported those who needed help to eat.

The report recommended the providers to put up weekly pictorial lunch menu in the dining room, next to the weekly pictorial activity schedule, for residents to view at any time and encourage residents who might be interested in getting involved in everyday activities such as laying tables and folding napkins. No response was provided by the service provider.
