Healthwatch Halton conducted an Enter and View visit at Widnes Hall Care Home in November 2017.
Three Enter and View representatives made observations and engaged with staff and residents during the morning of the visit.
Widnes Hall was observed to be a warm and welcoming care home, which is clean and well decorated throughout and has a good staff to resident ratio. Care staff were found to be friendly and respectful to residents.
A number of adaptations had been made to the internal decorations to support people with dementia, such as street themed wall paper, photographs on bedroom doors and a high contrast toilet door. The home plans to make use of a conservatory area, as a dementia café and complete their refurbishment plans in the near future.
Four recommendations were made: to supply menus and activity plans in pictorial format, consider ways to partition areas closed off for maintenance, sign up to the Herbert protocol with regards missing persons and display Healthwatch Halton information and posters to increase awareness of how to provide feedback.
The provider’s response to the report was positive and proactive in addressing all the recommendations made by Healthwatch Halton.
