Healthwatch Cheshire undertook an Enter and View visit to Westwood Court Nursing Home, Winsford on 3 August 2026.
The visit found that residents and relatives were very positive about the home, describing it as friendly, welcoming and safe. Residents reported feeling cared for, respected and able to maintain their privacy and dignity. Healthwatch observed positive interactions between staff and residents, a clean and well-maintained environment, and strong relationships between the home, local GP practices and wider healthcare services. Residents and relatives were particularly complimentary about the quality of care, the atmosphere and the support provided by staff.
The home offered a varied programme of activities including outings, music sessions, exercise, gardening, themed events and one-to-one support. Residents were encouraged to personalise their rooms and maintain contact with family and friends. Food and drink received very positive feedback, with residents reporting good choice, support with hydration and flexibility over where they ate their meals. Healthwatch also highlighted the home's community links, use of volunteers and efforts to promote person-centred care and independence.
Healthwatch concluded that Westwood Court was providing a high-quality service with many examples of good practice. The only recommendation was to further improve resident involvement in care planning, particularly for those who would like greater participation in reviewing and discussing their care needs. The provider accepted the recommendation and committed to strengthening care planning discussions with residents and relatives, improving documentation and using more accessible ways to involve people in decisions about their care.
