Summary of report content

Healthwatch Brent conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Victoria Care Centre in March 2015. The team engaged with staff, residents and relatives and observed the interaction and nature of the centre. The centre offers a specialist environment where staff are trained for the care of residents with dementia.

Although the centre offered a wide range of activities, the report raised concern around the limited social interaction between residents and the limited capacity for residents to pursue individual interests. Residents did not engage in regular physical exercise. The team also found staff’s understanding of safeguarding concerning. The staff, however, were praised for their focus on meeting residents’ physical needs such as personal care. The physical appearance of the home was considered excellent.

The report made a number of recommendations related to social interaction, safeguarding and ensuring exercise is built into resident’s days. No response was received from the service provider.
