Summary of report content

Healthwatch Warrington conducted an Enter and View (E&V) on Three Elms Care Home, which offers residential, respite, day care, dementia and end of life care and has a capacity of 60 bedrooms of which 56 are occupied. The visit, which lasted 2 hours and was conducted on 15 November 2016, was carried out as part of Healthwatch Warrington’s series of Best Practice Enter and Views visits.

Three Elms was identified as having undertaken significant positive improvements and therefore the aim of the visit was to gain an insight into these improvements and identify transferable lessons that could be used to improve other providers in the future.

Observation by the E&V team reported that the refurbishment process was underway with the upstairs portion providing a good insight into the changes being made. Overall the first impressions were positive, and staff were friendly and respectful towards residents. The home appeared clean for the most part with well-maintained dining areas and a mixture of seating arrangements in the lounge. There are many facilities to support resident’s lifestyle and interests including a secure designated smoking area, pets in the home such as dogs and rabbits, a range of pre-planned activities to choose from and weekly visits from the hairdresser. Resident’s bedrooms can be easily identified by their name and picture on the door however, this information is missing from some bedrooms. One resident commented that although she didn’t like being there, the food was good and she felt safe. A visitor also praised the staff for their caring attitude and going the extra mile to look after the residents.

In response to the report, the manager stated that she appreciated the feedback and had no amendments.
