Summary of report content

In August 2017 Healthwatch Salford carried out an Enter and View visit to Thornton Lodge Care Home. Healthwatch Salford made Enter and View of local care homes a local priority so as to contribute to strategic improvement plans. The purpose of the visit was to achieve some of the following

• To engage with residents of care homes and understand how dignity is being respected in a care home environment.

• Identify examples of good working practice.

• Observe residents and relatives engaging with the staff and their surroundings and to experience the care home.

Overall, from the twenty individuals we spoke to and from what we observed at Thornton Lodge, it was clear that the management team acknowledge there are areas requiring improvement following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The residents and staff were very positive about the care home but identified issues around providing personalised care, staff training and support, meals, access to activities and the environment which need to be addressed. The report cites 6 recommendations in relation to the above areas.

The provider response was included within the report which references changes made as a result of a new manager taking up post.
