Healthwatch Derbyshire undertook this enter and view of Thomas Fields Care Centre on 22 November 2023. Thomas Fields is a residential care centre within a sheltered accommodation building owned and managed by a housing association. The residential care service provides for up to ten people with dementia, physical disability, sensory impairment, mental health condition(s), eating disorder(s) and learning disability and/or autism spectrum disorder. At the time of the visit there were ten residents.
The report finds the home to be clean, tidy, warm and comfortable. Staff are welcoming, caring and have pride in their work. Support extends to partners and families, and the home also organised fortnightly GP services and mental health visits, with support as needed in between.
The report finds that the home would benefit from more general and personalised activities and volunteer involvement. There is also a need for more dining opportunities and food choices. Also, the current staff shift pattern is making it difficult to employ and keep staff.
