In August 2017 Healthwatch Salford carried out an Enter and View visit to Swinton Hall nursing home. Healthwatch Salford made Enter and View of local care homes a local priority so as to contribute to strategic improvement plans. The purpose of the visit was to achieve some of the following
• To engage with residents of care homes and understand how dignity is being respected in a care home environment.
• Identify examples of good working practice.
• Observe residents and relatives engaging with the staff and their surroundings and to experience the care home.
The report makes reference to 7 recommendations in the following areas:
• Staffing levels.
• Hygiene and odours.
• Meal choices and menus.
• Ensuring the rights and choices of residents are maintained.
• Meaningful activities.
• Wi-Fi access for residents.
• More information should be provided and arrangements made for residents to access a GP and other specialists.
The provider response was included within the report which provides clarification on some issues raised by the visiting team and information where changes have been made.
