Healthwatch Walsall carried out an Enter and View visit to Swan House Care Home in July 2026. Overall, residents, relatives and staff were very positive about the service. The home was found to be clean, well maintained and welcoming, with residents consistently reporting that they felt safe, cared for and respected. Staff were observed to be attentive and responsive, and residents spoke positively about the quality of care, food and support available.
Residents and relatives highlighted the caring nature of staff, describing them as attentive, supportive and approachable. All respondents said they felt cared for and knew who to speak to if they had concerns. People reported having choices about daily routines, clothing, activities and meals, while many took part in hobbies, gardening and other activities. Access to healthcare services, including GPs, chiropody, hairdressing and optician visits, was also viewed positively.
The report identified only a small number of issues. Healthwatch observed a trolley temporarily blocking a fire exit, which was moved immediately when highlighted. Some residents commented that visitor arrangements could occasionally be restrictive, while others mentioned minor concerns about aspects of the food or other residents' behaviour. The manager identified challenges around delays in DBS checks and the cost of arranging transport for outings and external activities.
Healthwatch concluded that Swan House Care Home provides a good quality service with strong staff-resident relationships and positive resident experiences. Recommendations included ensuring fire exits remain unobstructed, considering more formal resident and relative meetings, and displaying meeting outcomes to improve communication. Examples of good practice included attentive staff, well-presented residents and positive day-to-day interactions throughout the home.
