Healthwatch Bucks conducted an unannounced enter and view visit to Swan House on 24 February 2016. The home provides care for residents over 65 years old and those living with dementia. The team engaged with 4 residents and 3 staff members using survey methods and observed the running of the home. This report is part of Healthwatch Buck’s wider enter and view project about dignity in care.
Residents gave positive feedback about the home, although some concerns were raised in the report. Staff were praised for the care they provided, residents felt that they had personal choice and privacy in their care. An activities coordinator encouraged residents to participate in activities both in and out of the home. There seemed to be a lack of interaction at lunch time between anyone, with residents eating in silence. They observed some of the décor was below expectations. The team were informed that the home was due a total refurbishment by management.
The report made recommendations to the home including suggestions to refurbish the lounge, consider cooking meals onsite and to regularly plan more trips out.
The service provider responded to the feedback agreeing with their recommendations and will consider the improvements.
