Summary of report content

This report shares the findings od Healthwatch Bath and North East Somerset's Enter and View visit to Sulis Ward at St Martin’s Hospital on 19th February 2025. The visit aimed to hear directly from patients and staff about their experiences of care, following an earlier visit to Paulton Memorial Hospital. Feedback was gathered through conversations and observation, representing the views of 12 patients, staff, and visitors on the day.

The team collected information and feedback on patient experience, staff interaction, ward environment, signage, emotional support, activities, and access to physiotherapy.

Key recommendations include improving emotional/pastoral support, enhancing signs and trip hazard safety, facilitating entertainment access (TVs/radios), increasing patient clothing options, improving information displays, expanding activity and meal choices, and reviewing staffing levels-particularly at weekends.

In response, the provider noted that staffing is near full complement and recruitment is ongoing. Investment requests have been submitted to HCRG. IT issues have since been resolved. Clothing support remains limited due to laundry and hygiene challenges.

Next steps include sharing the report with the provider, and CQC.
