Healthwatch Warrington carried out an enter and view visit to St Marys Care Centre on 11 September 2026 to observe the environment and care provided, speak with residents and staff, and identify areas of good practice and improvement. The home provides nursing and personal care for up to 63 residents, with 62 beds occupied at the time of the visit. Healthwatch toured the service, observed daily life within the home and gathered feedback from residents and staff.
Healthwatch found the home to be clean, bright, welcoming and well maintained, with good accessibility and strong safety measures in place. Staff spoke positively about the support they received, highlighting a strong team culture, regular training opportunities and approachable management. Continuity of care was supported through limited use of agency staff, and the home had established links with GP, dental, optometry, podiatry and mental health services.
Residents were observed being treated with dignity, kindness and respect, and positive relationships between residents and staff were evident throughout the visit. The home offered a wide range of activities, including trips, singing sessions, exercise classes, therapy animals, community events and visits from local groups. Residents reported being happy with the quality and variety of food available and felt comfortable raising concerns with staff or management.
Healthwatch concluded that St Marys Care Centre was a caring, resident-focused service with a positive atmosphere and a strong commitment to residents’ wellbeing, independence and quality of life. Good practice was identified in staff support, resident engagement and activity provision. The only recommendation was to display a Healthwatch Warrington poster in the reception area to provide residents and relatives with a clear independent route for providing feedback.
