Healthwatch Bucks conducted an Enter and View visit to St Leonards residential care home in September 2019. Healthwatch representatives spoke to 14 residents and staff members during the visit.
They found that staff were positive and attentive and did not hesitate to engage with residents. Residents were treated well and were referred to by name. There was much choice for activities and meals. There were a range of activities on offer and the garden was well used and taken care of. Staff were respectful and knocked on bedroom doors before entering.
A number of recommendations were made including ensuring there is enough crockery to be used by all residents; introduce pictorial signs on toilets for those living with dementia; remember to keep the picture menus on the wall up-to-date; look into introducing a pictorial activity board.
The service provider responded and implied that an action plan to address the recommendation was now in place.
