On 19th February 2019, Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin made a partially announced Enter and View visit to St George’s Park Nursing Home to find out if the residents were happy living in the home. At the time of the visit, there were 66 residents living in the home, 70% of whom had dementia and the remaining required nursing care.
The report found that both the residents and their relatives were happy with the level of care; the home had a good atmosphere; the residents looked clean, well dressed, comfortable and relaxed; the environment was clean, bright and airy; the food was good; staff were friendly and showed dignity and respect to the residents; the lounge duty system was effective to ensure staff could respond to resident needs which could be monitored; the pictures and words on the activity board helped those living with dementia.
The report made a few recommendations to improve the home further, such as to tell all visitors to not obstruct the fire exits with furniture; to avoid making weak and insipid looking tea for those who prefer a stronger brew; follow up with Age UK the option of attending a second lunch club; continue interacting with other local groups and organisations; keep notice boards up to date and relevant. The providers responded by saying they would address all the issues raised by the report.
