Healthwatch Barnet conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit at Sonesta Nursing Home Ltd, on 26 March 2014, to follow up on a previous announced visit as part of a planned programme of work. The team of Enter and View Authorised Representatives undertook a review of the actions that had been taken following the original visit that took place in September 2013.
The report indicates a very positive response to the original ten recommendations made, including the completion of renovations and repainting of the lounge area, with residents participating in all choices made.
Two staff had completed Gold Standards Framework Training provided by the North London Hospice for End of Life Care. Staff attending this training were formally cascading it to other staff members, ensuring a positive impact all round. There was enthusiasm by staff to join the next round of training as they had seen how successfully it was being used to care for residents at the end of their lives.
A recommendation around individual activity sheets for residents had been taken up by the activities coordinator who expressed real enthusiasm for any support which would allow them to extend the provision of activities to residents.
Further recommendations were made in the follow up report, mainly around continuing the good progress.
