Enter and view: Simonsfield Care Home

Healthwatch Halton conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit in February 2019 to Somersfield Residential Home. The home offers residential care with a wide range of support staff who care for up to 63 residents.

Observations included that the car parking facilities were good and spaces were available for those with reduced mobility; information regarding the next monthly resident's meeting was clearly displayed and the reception area was clean and comfortable; dementia friendly signage was utilised throughout the home to aid orientation; the home appeared friendly and homely with familiar items around the home and corridors resembling streets; staff were well trained and training was regularly monitored and documented; residents were provided with the complaints procedure in their welcome pack and the procedure was also displayed in reception; there was a wide range of activities available including gardening and Pat Dog Therapy; and there was choice and flexibility around food and dementia friendly menus were used.

The service provider responded well to the report and reiterated that they have aimed to decorate the Home for residents so that they are comfortable and feel welcome.
