Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cheshire West undertook an announced enter and view visit to Sable Cottage on 9 June 2025.

Most residents reported being very happy with the quality, taste, choice, and quantity of food, as well as the availability of snacks and drinks. Meals are served in a cheerful dining room where staff engage warmly with residents. A pictorial menu was available and noted as helpful.

The garden includes a patio, seating areas, pot plants, and hanging baskets. Residents are actively involved in its upkeep, supporting wellbeing and engagement. Rooms are decorated with residents’ own photos, ornaments, and furniture, helping to create a homely and familiar environment. Most rooms have natural light, with views of the garden or nearby green spaces, contributing to a positive living space.

The area outside residents’ bedrooms is used as a gathering place, indicating that residents feel comfortable socialising beyond formal communal rooms.

Staff were observed to be respectful, supportive, and interacting positively with residents, particularly during mealtimes. Staff have a good relationship with both residents and family.

The report contains 5 recommendations about using best practice initiatives, building links with the wider community, improving the internal environment and lounge space.
