Summary of report content

Healthwatch Walsall undertook an announced enter and view visit to Rushall Care Home on 20 January 2026. They spoke to 9 people.

The home was found to be clean, well maintained, and accessible, with adequate parking, good public transport links, and no unpleasant odours. Staff greeted the visiting team professionally, and the premises included tidy communal areas, a well‑kept garden, CCTV, and secure entry systems. Although not all corridors had handrails, residents appeared well supported in moving around.

Residents and relatives generally expressed high satisfaction, reporting that they or their loved ones felt well cared for, safe, comfortable, and involved in activities. They described having choices about daily routines such as bedtimes, clothing, and participation in activities including bingo, knitting, and outings. Some feedback highlighted concerns about healthcare access, including comments that residents see nurses more often than GPs. A few also mentioned noise from televisions and a desire for more freedom or clarity around meetings.

Staff interviews indicated long service, good access to training, and supportive supervision. Staff felt able to raise concerns but wished for more staff due to the busy environment. The Activities Manager highlighted a varied programme of internal and external activities, including museum trips, boat rides, and themed entertainment.

Three recommendations were made: improving measures to prevent residents entering others’ rooms at night, monitoring night‑time staffing levels, and reviewing GP access arrangements with the local Integrated Care Board. Examples of best practice included strong staff engagement, well‑received activities, good food, and effective communication through noticeboards and surveys.

The service provider responded positively, welcoming the feedback and committing to reviewing night‑time safety, staffing levels, and GP access while reaffirming their commitment to high‑quality, person‑centred care.
