Summary of report content

Healthwatch Stockton-on-Tees conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Roseville Care Centre, on 15th April 2015. The service provides care and support for people with nursing care needs, dementia and those who require residential support. It is registered to provide care and support for 103 people.

The visit was planned following on from intelligence suggesting inconsistency in the delivery of activities, Healthwatch Stockton-on-Tees wished to assess the activities available to residents of Roseville Care Centre, the accessibility of these activities and whether the activities met the needs of residents. The objective of the visit was to observe the delivery of activities and highlight any good practice that they centre has. This was a large Care Centre, so it was decided that the team separate and each team member concentrate on a particular area of the Centre. The team were then supported by staff to approach people of their choosing to offer the opportunity to take part in the interviews.

The team observed relaxed interactions between relatives, visitors, residents and staff. The team found the centre to be clean, tidy and odour free. They found the residents interacting well with the staff and expressing contentment at living at Roseville Care Centre, “I like living here.”

The team couldn’t find any confirmation that the staff attend any regular training and whether there were any Activity Coordinators in post. Residents were assessed at several points during their time at the home.

A relatively limited range of current activities, delivered on an ad-hoc basis, were mentioned by staff, and some residents felt their activity preferences were not met.

Healthwatch Stockton-on-Tees made several recommendations to help improve the services delivered.

The service provider responded thanking Healthwatch for their visit and providing information related to the recommendations.
