Healthwatch Warrington conducted and Enter and View visit to Rosevilla Residential Home, an independent care home for up to 35 older people who may require dementia support, on 14 December 2017.
The visit was carried out as part of Healthwatch Warrington's Enter and View Programme and explored the 'lived experience' of residents in the home.
Overall, the Enter and View Authorised Representatives noted that there were very ambitious plans and excitement amongst staff about the future development of Rosevilla. Despite ongoing and extensive building work, there seemed to be minimal disruptive impact to residents. .The visiting team felt that staff certainly seemed very committed to trying to make Rosevilla feel as comfortable and homely as it can be for the residents. Staff were seen to be friendly, polite and respectful of their residents and visitors. Clearly, Rosevilla is striving to deliver person-centred care and live it up to its stated values. This was evident in the feedback that staff, residents and visitors shared with the team.
While the home does not employ an activities coordinator, there was evidence that activities were planned and delivered by named staff members. In addition, there is a weekly visit by a hairdresser, regular exercise classes, a regular visit from a chiropodist with other treatment (optician or dental) being arranged as required. The report notes that the home appeared to be very clean and homely, even with major refurbishment taking place.
There was a concern raised by a visiting family member regarding the number of staff being low on occasion however, the Deputy Manager advised that recruitment was underway to increase staffing levels. The Authorised Representatives noted that interactions between staff and residents were warm and pleasant and residents made positive comments about the quality of care and the compassion shown by staff.
The report made two recommendations, one relating to staffing levels, and the other in consideration of shared rooms for married residents at the home. The manager's response highlighted a number of inaccuracies contained in the report, but made no comment in regard to the recommendations.
