Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin undertook and enter an view visit to Roden Hall on 2nd December 2019. The purpose of the visit was to find out how dignity, respect, quality of life an independence is being respected and supported in the persons care. They also wanted to find out how activity-based care supports people to continue to be as active an independent as possible. This report is a follow up on the site of a new building.
Healthwatch staff found that Roden Hall is a newly purpose-built home set in the hamlet of Roden, surrounded by countryside. The new home had a large car park in front of the building. It had two outside seating areas and an herb garden. The ground floor accommodated residential care, while the first-floor nursing care. The home had amenities which included a cinema room, a cafe and a pub. They spoke to six residents who appeared well cared for unhappy with their care. However, one resident said that they thought the home needed more staff. The home had residence with varying forms of dementia however, there was no signage in the Home that would assist residents to find their room or bathroom. Healthwatch staff also spoke with the staff at the care home who felt supported in their job role and felt the manager was approachable and easy to talk to.
The report made four recommendations and contains a response from the service providers for each of the recommendations.
