Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bristol conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit, as part of a planned set of visits looking at the care provided, specifically around how the homes are able to support residents with additional needs.

Healthwatch Bristol visited Riverside Unit - Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Trust, on 12/07/2018.

The Riverside Adolescent Unit is a dedicated service for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who need intensive help with a range of severe mental health problems.

The Riverside Adolescent Unit was chosen for enter and view as AWP was rated as “Requires Improvement” by the CQC in summer 2017. Enter and view visits to AWP wards also tie in with Healthwatch Bristol’s current work plan priority around Riverside Unit.

The summary of findings included were in line with the themes environment, observations and discussion with staff and patients. Healthwatch Bristol identified no safeguarding issues during our enter and view visit to Riverside. The wards are to be commended for the care and environment they offer and the dedicated approach of the staff teams.
