Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Ridgeway Lodge on the 16th of April 2015. The team spoke to residents and staff using survey methods. They also made general observations during their visit.
The report stated that the home was operating to a good standard and the team observed that the standard of care was high. Residents indicated that they were happy with the quality of the care they received at the home. Some residents felt that having more staff would be beneficial. The report indicated that the home offered a good range of social activities and opportunities for residents to go on day trips.
The report made five recommendations in total. One of the main recommendations was for staffing levels to be reviewed to ensure the safety of residents. The report acknowledged that good practice was observed and encouraged the home to continue this by supporting staff training. Other recommendations related to encouraging greater involvement from relatives.
The report included a response from the provider. The provider had two comments and expressed disappointment that the report had not acknowledged the cafes they have that are used by residents and relatives.
