Aim: To explore the quality of life experienced by care users in this setting.
The Enter & View visit was semi-announced, 6 residents were spoken to (some of whom were in their own room). The staff on duty included a care assistant. There was also 1 relative in available and the hairdresser working in the home on that day who were also spoken to during the 2 hour visit.
In summary, the residents were very happy living in the home although some rooms were not heated. Staff were friendly, helpful but busy. Décor was tired but clean. There was one to one interaction between staff and residents but a lack of trips or group outings.
The report includes 6 recommendations concerning creating a dementia friendly environment; training; communications; nutrition; activities; and relationship building with local GP practice.
The Service Providers responded with acknowledgement of these recommendations and actions to address them all and being implemented.
