Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cheshire East undertook an announced enter and view visit to Park Mount Care Home in Macclesfield on 10 February 2026.

The home was found to be in generally good physical condition, with a secure entrance, clean and well-maintained interior spaces, calm atmosphere, and attractive communal areas. External spaces, including gardens, patio areas and a summer house, were highlighted as a particular strength due to their accessibility, safety, and upkeep.

Healthwatch noted positive medical and healthcare support, including regular GP visits, access to dentists, therapists, district nurses, and other professionals, and a strong working relationship with the local pharmacy. Residents’ care plans are reviewed regularly using a digital system, and care is delivered in a person‑centred way that respects residents’ preferences and choices. Privacy, dignity and respect were clearly embedded in staff practice, supported by training and appropriate systems.

Staff interactions with residents were observed to be warm, calm and respectful, with strong relationships evident. Residents were well presented, engaged in a range of activities, and supported to maintain contact with friends and family through flexible visiting arrangements. Although the home does not employ a dedicated activities coordinator, a variety of social, physical and community‑based activities are offered, including chair yoga, music sessions, visits from volunteers, and intergenerational engagement with local schools.

The report identified several areas for improvement, including the need to display the complaints procedure more clearly, install handrails in newly extended corridors as a priority, strengthen visual and personalised displays, and consider introducing digital reminiscence therapy and the “Resident of the Day” approach to further enhance person‑centred care. Healthwatch also recommended greater use of the Urgent Community Response service and stronger links with local schools.

Overall, the report concludes that Park Mount Care Home provides a high standard of care, with clean and welcoming environments, strong staff‑resident relationships, well‑maintained outdoor spaces, and meaningful community connections, while identifying practical recommendations to further enhance residents’ wellbeing and experience.
