Following on from an action in an intermediate care summary report they published in October 2017, Healthwatch Warrington conducted an Enter and View visit to Padgate House on 29 November 2017.
Padgate House is provided jointly by Warrington Borough Council and Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and provides intermediate and nursing care for up to 31 people (with an extra four spaces available to support people requiring neuro rehabilitation). Padgate House is commissioned to provide short-term intermediate care for people after they come out of hospital, with the aim of helping them regain their independence and preventing re-admissions.
The Healthwatch Warrington Authorised Representatives found the service to be clean with a good range of both therapeutic and leisure activities available. The patents spoke highly of the food and were offered a good range of refreshments and snacks during the day.
The staff were also well regarded by patients at Padgate House and the visiting team observed them being friendly and helpful with good morale. Relatives also spoke highly of Padgate House, with the daughter of a service user telling the Authorised Representatives that she was happy with the care that her mother was receiving and was kept informed about her treatment plans.
Healthwatch Warrington made three recommendations, two of which related to suggestions for maintenance of the carparking area. The response from the provider makes mention of other points noted in the report but does not address the recommendations.
