On 26th March 2019, Healthwatch conducted an Enter and View visit to The Old School House, a residential care home for people requiring nursing or personal care. This home specialises in caring for people with dementia and learning disabilities.
The home has a mix of residents, male and female, low and high dependency. Generally, the feedback from the visit was positive. It was noted that improvements made since a previous Enter and View visit in November 2017 had been maintained; fire exits remained clear and the home was generally free from clutter, hazardous areas were locked and visitors were routinely asked to sign in.
Healthwatch made several recommendations; for all staff to be provided with and to wear name badges; for signs or posters to be displayed around the home to detail daily menus, activities/trips out, a calendar, the weather; for residents who are able, to be encouraged to take their meals at these tables to promote and encourage social interaction.
