Enter and view: Oakley Lodge

Healthwatch Luton carried out an Enter and View visit to Oakley Lodge Care Home on 3 February 2026. The home provides residential care for adults with learning disabilities and dementia in a small, ten-bed setting. Overall, Healthwatch found a calm, welcoming and homely environment where residents appeared comfortable and well supported. Residents spoke positively about staff and described the home as a safe and pleasant place to live. 

Staff were observed interacting with residents in a respectful and supportive way, and residents said staff listened to them and understood their needs. Staff described a positive workplace culture, good teamwork and strong relationships with residents. The home’s smaller size was seen as a strength, helping staff provide personalised support and maintain a family-like atmosphere. 

Residents were positive about the food and enjoyed access to communal areas and the garden. Healthwatch found a clean and comfortable environment, although part of the home was undergoing refurbishment. Opportunities for social interaction were available, but there was limited evidence of structured activities taking place during the visit. Residents appeared able to make choices about how they spent their time and move freely around the home.

Healthwatch concluded that Oakley Lodge provides a positive, person-centred service with supportive staff and a strong focus on individual needs. Recommendations focused on continuing refurbishment and maintenance work, increasing opportunities for structured activities and introducing more formal arrangements for residents to provide feedback and contribute to decisions about the home.
