Healthwatch Slough undertook an enter and view visit to Oak House Care Home on 9 and 11 June 2025. The focus was on independence, and choice. Feedback was received from ten residents, eight relatives and twenty-five members of staff.
Oak House is a large, purpose-built care home in Slough with a capacity for 120 residents. There are enclosed gardens and a larger enclosed outdoor space. More use could be made of both these spaces.
The home is modern and still has a homely feel with artwork on the walls of the various units. It also has a Namaste sensory room and a cinema.
The large reception area is one of the many spaces that residents and their families can use.
The home also has a hairdresser's room which will be refurbished to include a nail bar, as many residents particularly like having their nails painted.
Staff were caring and kind. Feedback on the food varied quite widely, and overall was positive. It was noted that there will always be challenges when catering for a large and diverse community.
There is a gardening club and units were all themed to make them more personal.
Recommendations were made and a revisit will take place in early 2026 to check on progress.
