Summary of report content

Healthwatch Norfolk conducted an Enter and View visit to Oak Farm, a 36 bed rehabilitation unit for residents with brain injuries or neurological disorders, on 14 February 2018. This visit was carried out as part of a planned programme of work to explore the experiences of residents in care homes across the county.

The Enter and View Authorised Representatives observed residents being treated with dignity and respect and noted that residents, their relatives and carers are given several different methods to feedback their thoughts and feelings about the home and ideas for improvement.

The report notes that building was clean with appropriate space and equipment to accommodate the needs of residents, the bedrooms that were viewed were highly personalised and felt homely. It was also observed that a good choice of food and drink is available, with all residents’ specific and varying nutrition requirements catered for, and there was an extensive variety of activities for residents, both within the home and in the local community.

The report outlined ideas for improvement that were put forward by staff during the visit and the management at Oak Farm responded positively to these, outlining why they were unable to reinstate the hydrotherapy pool, but stating that a minibus had already been purchased and they were awaiting delivery.
