Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cheshire West conducted an Enter and View visit to Newgate – Ward 50 at Countess of Chester Hospital on the 9th of June 2015. The team spoke to patients, relatives and staff using survey methods. They also made general observations during their visit.

The report indicated that the ward was busy, but patients were well looked after and praised the efforts of the staff. The team noted that patients’ privacy and dignity was respected. The main complaint from patients was about the entertainment/communication equipment being expensive to use. The team also noted that there were some problems with equipment storage.

The report made several recommendations. These included improving storage for equipment and increasing staffing levels.

The report included a response from the provider, indicating that they were reviewing areas the team had made recommendations for.
