Four representatives of Healthwatch Rutland (HWR) and Healthwatch Leicester City revisited the unit following the recommendations of the last Enter and View visit in 2016. In 2014 a CQC report indicated structural problems at premises for this unit.
The objectives of the visit were to observe how the unit operates, collect views of patients and staff, identify best practice and areas of concern. Views about the suitability of the temporary premises were sought also.
The findings of the research were largely similar to what was recorded in the 2016 report. A number of Healthwatch recommendations focussed on the need to move back to unit to the original premises once the upgrade is complete.
Leicester General Hospital NHS Trust responded to the recommendations acknowledging the areas of concern and indicating what has been implemented subsequent to the visit from the estates team and unit staff. Wider refurbishment plans were referenced too. New staff appointments were identified following the visit also.
