Healthwatch Lewisham conducted and enter and view visit to Mpower Learning Disability Home. They spoke to 12 people during their visit including residents, relatives and members of staff.
Mpower Learning Disability Home is a registered care home for people with learning disabilities, and also provides specialist care for mental health, dementia and Parkinson’s. The home has capacity for 11 residents and there were 10 residents at the time of the visit.
The areas of the home were all clean and tidy. The posters and display in the reception area included pictures of the staff. Residents could personalise their room and the rooms were spacious. The corridors are wide enough for wheelchairs, however there is no lift in the home – only a stair lift which limits space on the stairs.
Feedback from the residents praised staff and the personalised care provided. Residents also commented positively about the activities provided and the meals, although they generally eat the same meals.
The report concluded with a few recommendations for the home, such as improving fire safety and other safety procedures, such as locking external doors and closing windows. Additionally, accessibility can be improved and the décor could be updated.
