Summary of report content

On 27 November 2025, Healthwatch Milton Keynes visited select inpatient wards and the restaurant at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The purpose of the visit was to understand how well the hospital considers patients’ pre-existing health conditions and additional needs during their stay, and how this affects their overall care experience. 

In total, Healthwatch Milton Keynes spoke to 54 patients and their family and friends, of which 68% had pre-existing conditions. 

Common themes included staff kindness and commitment; staff shortages and pressures; the impact of staffing on personal care and dignity; communication challenges; medication management and understanding; and boredom while staying. The report also includes findings related to the hospital environment and signage, and visitor access and facilities. Data were also collected on challenges for people with dementia.

There were 9 recommendations included in the report. This was an announced visit.
