Healthwatch Bucks conducted an unannounced enter and view visit to Micholls House on 29 February 2016. The team engaged with 4 members of staff and 3 residents and noted their observations of 12 residents and 8 staff, in addition to the general running of the home. The visit is one of many to local residential homes in the borough to look in to ‘dignity in care’.
The team found that the home was treating residents with dignity in their care. The report highlighted good personalised care and a high ratio of long-term employed staff. They observed positive staff and resident interactions, resident’s having personal choice in their care and staff respecting residents’ privacy. Residents have access to a variety of activities both on and off site.
The report made one recommendation to the home; for them to improve the decor by painting the murals in the downstairs area and by having the photos of residents in a format that cannot be easily removed.
The service provider responded to the report and claimed that the home is due for a refurbishment and that residents will be involved in the decor choices.
