Healthwatch Oxfordshire carried out an Enter and View visit to Meadowcroft Care Home, a care home with space for up to 71 residents.
Findings by the Enter and View team included: Meadowcroft was run by a hardworking and dedicated staff team; staff received comprehensive induction, training and ongoing support; the home ran a full and varied activity programme; communication was good with frequent staff and resident meetings taking place; residents felt safe and happy at Meadowcroft; and staff, visitors and volunteers said they would like additional staff to be recruited.
The residents spoken to were happy living at Meadowcroft. Residents said they felt safe living there and felt their individual needs were met to a certain extent, but that staff were so busy there was a limit as to what they could do. Residents said staff were all nice and caring and did their utmost to make residents happy and always tried to find time for a chat. Residents said they wouldn’t change anything about the home and felt happy to share any feedback or suggestions for change with staff.
Based on these findings, Healthwatch Oxfordshire made a number of recommendations around: staffing; meal choices; cleaning or replacing carpets; holding a recruitment event; and ensuring continuity of care during mealtimes. The report features a positive response from the service provider.
