Healthwatch Sandwell conducted an Enter and View visit in January 2019 at the McLaren House Care Home which supports up to 9 residents with a mental health condition.
The residents reported that they are looked after well, feel supported by staff and have freedom to go outside the home. This was supported by observations that the staff had good rapport with the residents with a wide range of activities being offered. The staff were committed to delivering good quality care and had access to a rolling programme of training opportunities. The environment and facilities were clean and tidy with good information advertisement. Care plans were implemented and were extremely comprehensive and were regularly reviewed. Residents were aware of complaints procedures.
There were no recommendations made due to the good quality of care observed. Although, a suggestion was made to manage a difficult situation with a resident who displayed challenging behaviour. They recommended that the local authority adult practitioner should address the situation and arrange for alternative accommodation.
