Three authorised representatives visited Mary Fisher House in April 2017. The service provider had formal notification of the visit and completed a pre-visit questionnaire.
Mary Fisher House is a residential care home which specialises in dementia care. They have capacity for 24 residents with 21 people being accommodated on the day of the visit. Residents are aged between 72 – 103 years.
Care is provide in a 3-storey property and extension with gardens and a patio area. The property is situated on a busy commuter road. There are local shops, restaurants and a park which residents enjoy.
The report provides feedback from short interviews with staff and conversations with residents about their experiences and views of the services being provided. Representatives also made observations of the care being provided for the residents and their interaction with the staff and their surroundings.
The main findings include information about the environment, residents care, meals, staff and activities. Additional findings cover issues such external services and technology to support residents with health care and personal care.
The report highlights the good practice that was observed and reflects the appreciation that residents felt about the care and the support provided.
Recommendations were made to improve signage, reorganise the residents lounge and to improve the environment to be more dementia friendly. The Managers have made a positive response to the recommendations and observations made during the visit and these are also included in the report.
