Summary of report content

Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted an Enter and View visit to Windsor House, as there had been past concerns about the availability and quality of staff training, the arrangements for supported eating, and a lack of activities and social stimulation for residents, on 25 March 2014.

The Authorised Representatives summarised their observations stating that Windsor House gives the impression of being well managed, residents appeared to be well cared for and that there were sufficient staff to meet their needs. A new Home Manager had been appointed but was unavailable for the Visit. The Assistant Manager delegated a Senior Care Assistant to assist the visiting team.

The report states that some activities and social interactions are being provided for service users but the internal environment is in need of some refurbishment. The Healthwatch Staffordshire Authorised Representatives felt that the effectiveness of the visit was inhibited by the absence of the Home Manager, however this did not seem to change the observation that the residents were well cared for and happy at the Home, and that staff were capable and caring.

The report made a recommendation that management arrangements in the absence of the Home Manager should be reviewed, however the Authorised Representatives indicated that an immediate follow up Visit does not seem to be necessary and is not recommended.

There is no provider response included within the report.
