Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough carried out an Enter and View visit to Longueville Court Care Home on 24 June 2026. Overall, the home was found to provide a caring environment with experienced staff, good relationships with residents and families, freshly prepared food and a varied programme of activities. Residents and relatives were generally positive about the quality of care, with many describing staff as supportive, friendly and helpful. The home benefited from good links with local healthcare services and a large, well-maintained garden that residents and visitors could enjoy.

Residents spoke positively about the food, activities and staff. Families praised communication with the home and felt involved in care decisions. Healthwatch observed warm interactions between staff and residents and noted that many staff had worked at the home for several years, helping to provide continuity of care. Activities were available throughout the week, including outings, animal visits, entertainment and exercise sessions.

The main concerns related to the environment rather than the quality of care. Healthwatch found that some areas were not fully dementia-friendly, including signage, décor and the use of colour contrast. Other issues included limited cooling during hot weather, handrails being available on only one side of some corridors, some toilets lacking contrasting sanitary fittings, and a small trip hazard where carpets joined. A few relatives also mentioned laundry mix-ups and difficulties accessing dental care.

Healthwatch concluded that Longueville Court provides a positive and supportive environment where residents generally feel happy and well cared for. Recommendations focused on improving dementia-friendly design, enhancing signage, installing better cooling systems for extreme temperatures, improving accessibility for people with visual impairment or dementia, and addressing minor environmental issues identified during the visit.
