Summary of report content

Healthwatch Warwickshire undertook an Enter and View visit to Lilbourne Court Nursing Home on 21 May 2024.

The visit found that residents were generally very positive about the home and said they felt well cared for. Staff were observed treating residents with dignity, kindness and respect, and the overall atmosphere remained calm despite significant building works being carried out to meet updated fire safety requirements. The home was described as clean, bright and well maintained, with modern furnishings, attractive countryside views and a range of support services including regular GP input, activities, outings and access to healthcare professionals.

Healthwatch highlighted several areas of good practice, including comprehensive staff training, a strong activities programme, regular feedback from residents and families, and positive relationships between staff and residents. Staff spoke positively about their work and described residents as the best part of their role. The activities coordinator was praised for delivering a varied schedule of events, including fitness sessions, pet therapy, musical performances and visits from community groups. Residents and relatives also complimented the quality of care, food and support provided by staff.

The visit identified a small number of areas for improvement. Following the recent departure of the registered manager, some staff were uncertain about who to approach with concerns and one member of staff was unclear about reporting procedures. Healthwatch also found that some staff were unaware of arrangements for accessing emergency toiletries for residents whose supplies had run out. Recommendations included ensuring all staff know who to contact for support and advice, improving awareness of the home's toiletries fund and providing further training on sensory activities for people living with dementia.
