This report from Healthwatch Leicester and Healthwatch Leicestershire contains the findings from two separate Enter and View visits: The Leicester Royal Infirmary on 31 July 2024 and Leicester General Hospital on 7 August 2024. The purpose of each visit was to gather patient views of the service provided and observe the facilities and operation of the service. During the visit to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Healthwatch Leicester and Healthwatch Leicestershire collected feedback from 5 patients. During the visit to Leicester General Hospital, Healthwatch Leicester and Healthwatch Leicestershire collected feedback from 12 patients.
In relation to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, the report includes feedback and observations on location, purpose, facilities, wait times, clinical areas, operating hours, accessibility, and patient information. Staff feedback highlighted lack of continuity due to consultant availability, inappropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, issues with communicating with GP surgeries regarding referrals, and waiting time issues. Patient feedback was generally positive but included issues around conflicting advice being provided by different doctors and issues with potential surgery rescheduling.
In relation to the Leicester General Hospital, the report includes feedback and observations on location and access, parking, physical premises, wait times, facilities, accessibility, patient information, and support for specific needs (e.g., patients with learning disabilities and transgender patients). Staff feedback was positive, noting good communication, low staff turnover, and prompt appointment booking. Patient feedback was generally positive but included issues around parking and waiting room sizes.
