Summary of report content

Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire undertook an Enter and View visit to Leawood Manor Care Home on 14 April 2026. Overall, residents and relatives were positive about the home, particularly the kindness, warmth and person-centred approach of staff. The home was found to provide a welcoming environment where many residents had developed meaningful friendships and felt well supported. Staff were praised for knowing residents as individuals and adapting care to personal preferences and life histories.

A key strength of the home was its focus on relationships and community. Many residents valued the friendships they had formed and spoke positively about the social atmosphere. Healthwatch observed examples of personalised care and meaningful efforts to maintain residents' identities, interests and sense of belonging. Families also reported improvements since a recent change in management and described staff as caring, attentive and respectful.

However, Healthwatch found that residents who were less able to speak up for themselves, including those living with advanced dementia, limited mobility or social isolation, were at greater risk of being overlooked. Some residents felt they had lost a sense of purpose following their move into care, while others would have liked more opportunities to leave the home and take part in activities. The visit also identified two examples of personal care that did not fully protect residents' dignity and privacy, as well as concerns from some staff who felt issues they raised were not always acted upon or responded to.

Overall, Healthwatch concluded that Leawood Manor provides a caring and largely positive environment, but that greater attention should be given to residents who are quieter or less able to advocate for themselves. Recommendations focused on identifying and supporting socially isolated residents, helping people maintain a sense of purpose, strengthening dignity and privacy during personal care, ensuring staff receive feedback when raising concerns, and improving information for families about how to raise issues.
