In April 2015, three volunteer representatives from Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire conducted an Enter and View visit to the Ladysmith Care Home, Grimsby. The Care Home is registered for residential and dementia patients. It is purpose built and provides 90 rooms. On the day of the visit, 84 occupants were resident in the Care Home. Healthwatch representatives spoke to 10 visitors who were present during their visit.
A letter was sent to the Care Home approximately one week before the visit date and Healthwatch representatives attended unannounced during the following week.
The report provides an overview of the findings regarding the environment, food and drink, safeguarding, staffing, personal care and medication and recreational activities. They found the Care Home was bright, friendly and dementia friendly. Residents appeared well cared for and were treated with dignity and respect. Residents were well dressed and were happy to talk with the Healthwatch representatives. Relatives and friends appreciated the care received by residents.
Recommendations were made regarding fraying carpets and malodorous fabric covered chairs. Also the need to risk assess furniture brought into the Care Home by residents and to improve one of the garden areas which has been neglected. The Service Provider confirmed that many of these issues were in hand and outlined future plans as well as providing an action plan in response to the report.
