Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire conduced an announced enter and view visit to Lady Spencer House on 12 March 2015. The visit is part of the team’s wider enter and view programme to identify how dignity is being respected in a care home environment. On the day of the visit, the team engaged with 1 resident, 2 members of staff and 1 relative using survey and observation methods.
The home was found to be operating to a very good standard of care with regard to dignity and respect. Residents appeared well cared for and their choices respected. They enjoyed the food and were able to chose where to take their meals. There was a range of social activities and resident were given the options of taking part with their relatives. Residents reported that they felt warm, safe and secure. Residents medications are stored in secure filing cabinets. The team observed positive interactions between staff and residents and found the staff to have good training. Relatives spoke highly of the care given to the residents.
The report recommended that the care and compassion witnessed during the visit is to be maintained. It was also suggested the report is shared with members of staff and residents at the home.
The service provider responded to the report thanking the team for their visit.
