Healthwatch Kingston upon Thames made this report by compiling the experiences and views of 60 patients (sometimes assisted by relatives) and 16 hospital staff that were shared with Healthwatch Kingston Authorised Representatives during a time specific Enter and View visit, of six adult inpatient wards at Kingston Hospital.
Patients who spoke with the Heathwatch Kingston Enter and View visiting teams were generally very pleased with the care received in the six adult inpatient wards at the time of the visits. When asked how they would describe their overall care on their ward, 71% of patients (43 out of 60 engaged with) gave positive feedback. However, there were some areas that could be improved on such as communication.
Healthwatch Kingston Upon Thames made multiple recommendations. The most common theme within these was about communication, recommending that it is important to ensure staff communicaiton with all patients is to a consistently high standard, continuing to review how staff communicate care plans with patients and ensuring patients understand why they are recieving their medications at certain times. There were also recommendations made on ward environments, hospital discharge and food.
