Healthwatch Bucks conducted an Enter and View visit to Keep Hill, a nursing care home that provides care for 9 people, most of whom have dementia.
They spoke to 5 residents, 1 visitor, and 3 members of staff. They focused on observations around how people were treated, personal choice, the privacy, similarities to 'being at home', quality of life.
They rated this home 3 stars out of 5. They found residents enjoyed activities when the staff engaged with them, however personal choice was limited for those living with dementia.
Healthwatch provided several recommendations:
- to have a pictorial menu on the noticeboard as well as a written one to help those who many not be able to read
- to offer residents a choice of what to eat and drink
- to make the garden more attractive with more plants, flowers and mowed lawn
- to start up a gardening club as two residents told us they had enjoyed gardening when they had their own homes
There was no service provider response in this report.
